ZTT to Produce Deep-sea Fiber Optic Cables

People's Daily, 11/04/07

ZTT Cable's deep-sea fiber optic technology has received Ministry of Information Industry (MII) approval, giving China the ability to manufacture deep sea fiber optic cables for the first time.

ZTT Cable's cable and connectors can be laid at depths of up to 5,000 meters and can also be used for non-telecommunications applications.

According to International Telecommunication Union (ITU) standards, cables laid at depths of 1,000 meters and below are considered deep-sea cables. To date, China has produced cables only for coastal applications where depths are generally no more than 200 meters.
