CCSA to Set Standards for TD-SCDMA/WCDMA Authentication Frameworks

National Business Daily, 11/08/07

The China Communications Standards Association has started drafting industry standards for first- and second-stage common authentication frameworks for 2Ghz TD-SCDMA / WCDMA.

New third-party Internet services such as presence, multicasting / broadcasting and electronic payment certificates all rely on some form of authentication and encryption. When passwords are used users are often required to remember multiple passwords, or opt to reuse a single password - in one case inconvenient, in the other a security risk. The common authentication framework will use the authentication and encryption systems used for access to 3G mobile networks to implement smartcard-based service access - delivering both convenience and security.
