SARFT Restates Ban on Foreign Cartoons During Prime Time

State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) Director Wang Taihua, speaking at the 2007 National Animation Working Meeting, has emphasized that the state is to encourage creativity and quality work in the sector, along with construction of animation platforms and support of exports. Wang also emphasized SARFT's preference for animation that represents Chinese culture. He restated that TV stations must not broadcast foreign cartoons between 5pm and 8pm, and that children's channels and cartoon channels must ensure at least 70% of their cartoon output is Chinese made.

Between January and September, China's animation industry produced 70,000 minutes of content, a new record.
