Putian Develops Smart Memory Card

Beijing Times, 12/05/07

The Putian Group has revealed that it has developed the world's first smart memory card, with support for portable terminals such as mobile phones and digital TVs. The card allows mobile and contactless payments and can automatically recharge itself.

This is the first memory card to be entirely based on China's own intellectual property. In the past Chinese memory card manufacturers had to pay about 6% in licensing fees to overseas patent holders. The card is currently undergoing testing, and is due to be mass produced and sold next year.
