Four Alibaba Executives Leave Firm

A shake-up of executive positions at Alibaba has seen eight jobs change hands, with four leaving the company.

COO Li Qi, Group CTO Wu Jiong, Alibaba Group executive VP and Taobao president Sun Tongyu and Alibaba Group Senior VP Li Xuhui are all to leave their posts by March 1 2008. Meanwhile Alibaba Group executive VP and China Yahoo president Ceng Ming is to return to his post as Group Head of Staff. Jonathan Lu, currently president of Alipay, is to become president of Taobao, while Alibaba Group Senior VP Jin Jianhang is to become China Yahoo president; and Taobao VP Polo Shao will take up an executive president post at Alipay.

An Alibaba official described the moves as designed to provide opportunities for learning, rest and reorganization. According to a reliable source, the four members of staff leaving are to spend a year studying abroad.
