Unicom Unveils New Package Plans for GSM Users

Sina Tech, 12/29/07

China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) has announced new tariffs for users of its GSM network.

Worldwind branded packages are to be combined into a single a la carte components model, with no monthly fees or charges for incoming calls. The new model will allow users to mix and match different combinations of monthly call minutes, SMS items, GRPS volumes, and other variables.

The Ruyitong brand is to be reorganized into six nationally-available packages - standard; incoming; friends and family; off-peak; lucky; and mass - targeted at different user groups, including those who mainly receive calls, make off-peak calls, and so on.

Meanwhile the U-Power brand will feature four different packages: on-campus; local; SMS; and long-distance.
