Guangzhou to Launch HDTV and Interactive DTV Service

Ycwb.com, 1/04/08

Guangzhou Cable TV had completed 90% of its transition to DTV in urban areas as of December 31, with 900,000 households connected. This figure is expected to reach one million by Chinese New Year (February 6-12). Preparations for HDTV and interactive TV are underway, with a possible launch by June.

Guangzhou Cable has recently started carrying ten new channels from the platforms of CCTV subsidiary China Digital Media (e.g. Military Affairs channel) and Top V (Dingshi Media), giving it a total of 91 channels. New high-end set-top boxes with hard drives and support for HDTV, time-shifting and interactivity are to be made available mid-year, along with the launch of interactive services.
