According to one TD-SCDMA manufacturer, handsets from only seven firms - less than half the total which participated - passed Ministry of Information Industry (MII) testing late last year.
The tests - the first field trials of TD-SCDMA handsets - used Qinhuangdao's large-scale TD-SCDMA trial network and included tests of in-vehicle calling, video calling, SMS, MMS and WAP services.
During the tests there were frequent issues with dropped calls, failed SMS and MMS, and unsuccessful WAP connections. Only Huawei, ZTE, Hisense, LG, Samsung, Lenovo and Guangzhou New Postcom passed testing.
