CERNET Invests RMB 10 mln in FaceRen

CERNET Investment, a subsidiary of the China Education and Research Network (CERNET), has invested RMB 10 mln in FaceRen, a social networking website for domestic or overseas Chinese students.
FaceRen was founded in May 2006 in Boston, by Guo Lei, a Chinese graduate student at Harvard University. Guo Lei claims that FaceRen has attracted over 2 mln students in about 5,000 universities worldwide.
Editor's note: FaceRen's user interface, including everything from the color scheme to the layout, appears nearly indistinguishable from that of Facebook.
