Rumor: China Mobile to Launch Mobile Game Billing Platform

Industry sources have revealed that China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) is about to launch a billing platform for mobile online games. Mobile online game SPs will be able to use the platform to implement similar pricing models to that of PC games. China Mobile's current mobile game download service, Baibaoxiang, which offers monthly subscriptions as well as one-off download pricing models is not ideally suited for mobile online games.

Currently most mobile online games are free to play, although a few use a monthly subscription model, hourly price cards, the purchase of in-game items or third-party payment systems to generate income. This has led to mobile online games being operated independently from China Mobile's Baobiaxiang service.

Most domestic mobile online games are downloaded through free WAP sites.
