Shanghai Government, CECT-Chinacomm Sign WLAN Contract

Sina Tech, 1/18/08

Authorities in Jiading, Shanghai, have signed a contract with CECT-Chinacomm on construction of a wireless broadband network. Due to policy restriction on the use of WiMAX, the project will use WiFi-Mesh technology, providing theoretical speeds of 72Mbps and, under realistic conditions, allowing laptop access at between 1 and 2Mbps. Between two and three hundred Wi-Fi base stations will be built. Equipment will be sourced from STRIX, Cisco and local firm GBCom. CECT-Chinacomm is currently exploring possible profit models.
