China's four main telecom operators have announced their subscriber totals for December, 2007.
Mobile operators continued to see stable growth in user uptake. China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) added 6.6 mln subscribers to reach 369 mln and China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) added 1.4 mln new subs (1 mln GSM subs and 327,000 CDMA subs) to reach 160 mln (119 mln GSM subs and 41.1 mln CDMA subs).
December saw fixed-line operators suffer the largest user-base declines of the year. China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) lost 1.5 mln fixed-line subs, dropping its total to 220 mln, and China Netcom (NYSE: CN; 0906.HK) lost 2.5 mln fixed-line subs, leaving it with 110 mln.
Broadband continued to record robust growth, with China Telecom adding 600,000 new broadband users to reach 36 mln and Netcom adding 460,000 to reach 20 mln.
