Gansu, Ningxia to Start Real-name System for BBS

Southern Metropolitan News, 1/28/08

Gansu and Ningxia will soon launch real-name systems for bulletin board system (BBS) administrators and chat room moderators. The new rules will also mandate that each server host no more than one BBS site, and that the server be supplied by an authorized vendor. Each BBS will be required to register its domain name, as well as the name and contact information of the BBS administrator with the Ministry of Information Industry (MII) or local government authorities. BBS administrators will be held responsible for filtering illegal content, using both automated and manual means.

Other cities and provinces are also considering similar measures.
