Rumor: China Telecom to Acquire CDMA in Late March

An alleged timetable for China Telecom's (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) purchase of China Unicom's (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) CDMA network has been leaked. According to the schedule, an official announcement will be made in mid- or late-March, with calculation of costs and transfer of equipment taking place from March to August. A telecom industry restructuring would be officially announced in September, with China Unicom and China Netcom (NYSE: CN; 0906.HK) merging and China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) acquiring China Tietong.
