Rumor: China Mobile Awards TD-SCDMA Terminal Contracts

According to an informed source, results for China Mobile's first round of TD-SCDMA terminal bidding - for contracts to supply 60,000 handsets and data cards - are in. Guangzhou New Postcom has won orders for 21,000 units, Lenovo (0992.HK) and Hisense (600060.SH) 10,500 each; ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ) 9,000; and Samsung and LG a combined total of 9,000. Most of these manufacturers are using Datang or Spreadtrum (Nasdaq: SPRD) chipsets. Postcom and Lenovo both use Spreadtrum solutions.
