Hisense in Funding Talks with Alcatel-Lucent, Siemens

21st Century Business Herald, 3/06/08

Hisense Group (600060.SH) CEO Zhou Houjian has said that in order to expand into optical communications, network technology and other new fields, the Hisense Group is seeking strategic investment from foreign partners, with negotiations on the matter already seeing substantive progress.

According to one source, Alcatel-Lucent and Siemens are among the prospective investors Hisense is talking to. Both companies currently enjoy fairly close cooperative relationships with Hisense; Hisense, for example, has a stake in Alcatel-Lucent subsidiary Lucent Qingdao.

Hisense currently has production capacity for 500,000 GPON optical modules. In February, Hisense Optoelectronics merged with Hisense Electrical Appliances' set-top box, IPTV, high-speed PLC and internet multimedia divisions, forming Hisense Broadband Multimedia Technologies.
