MII Announces Jan-Feb Telecom Statistics

The Ministry of Industry and Information (MII) announced figures on March 24 showing that over the past two months, Chinese mobile users sent 116.3 bln SMS messages, a 33.2% increase over last year. The MII's figures recorded a total of 17.9 mln new mobile users - an average of almost 9 mln new users per month - and a mobile penetration rate of 41.6%; the number of fixed-line users decreased by 3.3 mln from the end of last year, to 362 mln, for total national fixed-line penetration of 27.8%.
