CMMB Coverage in Beijing Reaches Average 90%

Tech.qq.com, 3/24/08

At the China Content Broadcasting Network Exhibition, director Jiang Wenbo of SARFT's Academy of Broadcasting Planning gave new details on the state of CMMB testing. Within the Fifth Ring Road of Beijing, signal coverage for the 20 channels supported by CMMB averages approximately 90%, Jiang said, with 93% coverage in the northwest, 88% coverage in the northeast, 84% coverage in the southeast, and 95% coverage in the southwest.

In February 2008, the Academy of Broadcasting Planning undertook testing of handsets, USB devices and other CMMB terminals from Lenovo, ZTE, Innofidei and other manufacturers. The ABP tested satellite CMMB broadcasting in March; at the China Content Broadcasting Network (CCBN) 2008 Conference, the CMMB display booth showed off terminals capable of watching 7 channels of real-time CMMB broadcasts as well as getting updates on stock prices, traffic conditions, and other data services. One terminal manufacturer said that barring any major changes, the company would begin selling terminals to end users through retailers and other distribution channels this April.
