Online Map Publishing to Require State Council Approval

Eight government bodies including the State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Public Security Bureau issued the Recommendations on Strengthening Oversight and Management of Online Mapping and Geographical Data Service Websites today. The Recommendations require all parties engaged in online mapping to apply to the State Council's surveying and mapping administration bodies for approval and relevant certification. Parties engaged in online map publishing must apply to the State Council's publishing administration bodies for review and approval, and will be required to obtain an online publishing permit. Foreign organizations or individuals will not be permitted to engage in online map editing or publishing.
