CLSA: China Mobile May Get WCDMA License

Communications World Weekly, 4/02/08

CLSA analyst Zhang Yaochang says he believes that China Mobile's (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) current commercial testing of TD-SCDMA could determine the fate of the technology and the amount of investment it is likely to receive. Zhang suspects, looking at the current rate of progress, that TD-SCDMA is unlikely to become one of the major highlights of this summer's Olympic Games. If the commercial TD-SCDMA tests perform disappointingly, China Mobile could receive licenses for both TD-SCDMA and the European WCDMA standard, in order to assure a smooth service upgrade.
