Mobile Payment-Enabled SIM Card Unveiled in Zhuhai

South Daily, 4/08/08

China's first-ever mobile bank card system was recently unveiled in Zhuhai, Guangdong province. The new mobile bank card is based on R&D by the Zhuhai Rural Credit Collective and Shanghai Futong and makes use of a smart chip installed on mobile SIM cards to set up a point-to-point connection between the mobile operator's SMS platform and the bank, enabling all billing, transfer, intra- and inter-city wire transfers, balance checks, and other non-cash operations.

Any user with a Zhuhai Rural Credit Collective account book or credit card who is also a China Mobile subscriber can apply for the service.
