Southern Metropolitan News, 4/09/08

The State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) is to launch a third round of procurement of CMMB transmitters and antenna feeder lines. Twenty sets of equipment will be purchased, for use in network optimization in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. The official government procurement site published the results of second round bidding this week, with Trend Micro, ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ), BBEF and Innofidei to supply 45 CMMB repeaters.

Head of SARFT's Planning Institute Jiang Wenbo expects construction of Beijing's flagship network and single-carrier wave networks in eight cities to be completed by the end of May. Seven channels will be available in Beijing - CCTV-1, 2, 4, 7, 10, 11 and Beijing Television Station (BTV). CMMB signals are already being broadcast in Chengdu, covering most areas of the city. Xi'an started broadcasts last week, with coverage currently being tested. Single-carrier networks will be completed by the end of June at the latest in 37 cities. Partnership agreements have been signed with 100 terminal suppliers.
