Unicom Insider: Telecom Restructuring Unlikely Before October

Cctime.com, 4/10/08

A China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) insider has revealed that the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) will shortly undertake a large scale investigation of post and telecommunication fees, and that the investigation will last through October this year. This might mean that any restructuring of the telecom industry was unlikely to occur before then. Inside sources at the Ministry of Information Industry (MII)'s China Academy of Telecommunication Research (CATR) have stated that the work on integration into the new Ministry of Industry and Information has already begun and was expected to be completed by the end of June this year.
