Online Video May See Detailed Content Regulations

South CN, 4/17/08

Dong Nianchu, director of the New Audiovisual Media Research Center at the State Administration of Radio Film and Television (SARFT)'s Development and Reform Research Center, said recently that SARFT's oversight and management for online video sharing sites at the moment focus on "punishments, closures and public notices," and that "oversight standards for specific content will require further thought and refinement."

21CN.com marketing GM Hu Shixuan revealed that not long after the company received permission for audiovisual content, a number of online video-sharing sites approached the company to discuss cooperation. Many sites have also contacted Xinhuanet, OpenV and other state-backed online video sites in the hopes of initiating partnerships; private firms Pomoho and Mofile are currently seeking cooperative partners with state backing.
