Chinese Online Video Site Traffic Ratchets Up

Xinhuanews, 4/25/08

First-quarter numbers released yesterday by the Data Center of the China Internet (DCCI) show that online video sharing sites are beginning to make it into the mainstream, with average time per month spent on these sites approaching that of web portals.

In Q1 2008, visitors to video sharing site Youku spent an average of 10,387.2 seconds (173 minutes) per month on the site. For video sharing site Tudou, this figure was 7,185.8 seconds (120 minutes) per month. Visitors to China's top 4 portals, on the other hand, spent a combined average of 12,570.3 seconds (210 minutes) visiting the site per month.

The figures demonstrate that Youku, Tudou and 56.com are the first-tier video sharing sites in China; of these three, only Youku showed a positive growth trend in monthly visit time for the quarter. Tudou and 56.com showed small fluctuations in their monthly visit time in Q1.
