Two Agencies under New MII Unveiled

The State Council has unveiled details of two bureaus which will operate under the new Ministry of Industry and Information (MII) - the National Defense Technology Industry Bureau, and the National Tobacco Monopoly Bureau.

Since the release of the proposals for a ministerial shake-up, experts and People's Representatives have recommended a national telecom regulator - a National Telecom Bureau - be established under the auspices of the MII.

Editor's note: Previously rumor had it a new Telecom Management Agency, Telecom Technology Agency, and an Information Network Security Agency were to be established under the new MII in or around June of this year: "Rumor: New MII to Establish Three Telecom Agencies", MD 4/14/08 issue.
