Netease, 4/29/08

TCL Communication Technology (2618.HK) issued its Q1 2008 report at the Hong Kong Stock Exchange today. The company reported revenues of HKD 1.2 bln, up 19% from HKD 1.02 bln during the same quarter last year, and profits of HKD 20.2 mln, up 900% from HKD 2 mln during Q1 2007.

TCL sold 3.3 mln handsets during the first quarter of this year, 56% more than Q1 2007, but down 19% from Q4 of the same year.

The main reason for TCL's growth was strong sales for the Alcatel brand in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America.
