Rumor: Celebrity Blogs Cheating on High Page Views

An informed source who claims to make his living from pumping up blog stats revealed recently that most of the high page view counts for celebrity blogs are not real. "We did page view pumping for a lot of the top 200 ranked blogs on a lot of the major portals," he said. "The top 20 celebrity blogs were pretty much all us - a lot of our clients are artists or celebrities. We've got two models right now: in one, we do the pumping for them; in another, the client buys a program to pump up the stats themselves. We charge by traffic - RMB 150 per 10,000 viewers if they just want to pump by between 10,000 and 50,000; RMB 100 per 10,000 above 50,000. Our software comes in two flavors - 'limited' and 'unlimited' editions. The 'limited' edition charges users by traffic - RMB 50 per 10,000, with a minimum charge of RMB 500 per session. The 'unlimited' edition charges a flat rate of RMB 5000. Celebrities mostly go with the 'unlimited' version."
