Samsung Cuts Out the Middle Man

China Business News, 5/13/08

According to CCID's Report on China's Flat-Panel Television Market, Q1 2008, Samsung has emerged as the leader in LCD television sales with a 10.3% market share - up from its sixth-place ranking just one year ago. Director Li Mingxu of Samsung China's television marketing and sales department attributes the company's striking success to its large-scale cancellation of provincial sales agents to implement a more horizontal channel system. Now, after a Samsung television leaves the factory in Tianjin, it will be shipped to one of Samsung's five companies in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, or Shenyang, and thence sold directly to Gome (0493.HK), Suning (002024.SZ) or other channel partners. At present, some 60% of Samsung's television sales in China come from Gome and Suning, with regional sales agents kept on only in small and middle-sized cities in out-of-the-way regions.
