Baidu Tightens Purse Strings

China Business Post, 5/16/08

According to internal sources, Baidu's (Nasdaq: BIDU) strategy this year will move from 'growth' to 'internal alignment,' with a strategic focus on aligning the direction of internal management and existing services. With the exception of the Japanese market and its C2C services, Baidu senior management will not allow the development of any large-scale strategic expansion. The company now employs 6700 people. Baidu CFO Jennifer Li says that in addition to increasing income and reducing expenditures, increasing employee productivity will also be one of her primary tasks.
