Huawei Spins Off Software Business

Chinese telecom equipment manufacturer Huawei has spun off its applications and software department into an independent business, named Huawei Software. Huawei's aim is for the new company to be a global leader in the provision of point-to-point software solutions for the telecom market. Huawei Software spokesperson Che Haiping indicated that research into services and technology will be used to assist operators adjust their businesses after the telecom industry restructuring.

Editor's note: Huawei's software business has seen average annual growth of about 33%. In 2007, it recorded sales of USD 1.4 bln, 55% of which came from overseas markets. Currently, approximately 30% of its revenues come from supply of product/services for China Mobile';s value-added services.
