China Telecom Favors LTE for 4G

Sina Tech, 6/05/08

China Telecom chairman and CEO Wang Xiaochu recently stated that China Telecom was considering upgrading its CDMA network to EV-DO Rev A in major first-tier cities, while waiting for further development of LTE. China Telecom was previously considering six upgrade paths for its CDMA network, including plans covering LTE, WiMAX and UMB technology. A researcher at China Telecom suggests there is an 80 percent chance that the company will go with LTE.

China Telecom began building Wi-Fi networks in seven provinces last year. It started its bidding process for wireless technology in 21 provinces nationwide prior to the recent telecom reorganization.
