Rumor: Operator to Announce TD-SCDMA Handset Procurement Results Soon

Speaking at the Tianjin International Mobile Exhibition, Ren Weiguang, VP and head of the mobile terminals department at Motorola China, has indicated that the results of China Mobile's (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) second round of TD-SCDMA handset procurement are expected to be released in the next week or two.

A number of manufacturers have submitted bids, including Motorola, and Ren said he was confident that Motorola would be successful.

China Mobile has not said when results will be announced. However, Tianjin Mobile deputy GM Yan Wusi did reveal that in the first round of procurement Tianjin obtained 3,500 handsets.
