CNNIC Releases H1 2008 Online Shopping Statistics

According to a CNNIC report released June 13th, more than RMB 16.2 bln worth of products were purchased online in China's four self-governing municipalities (Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, and Chongqing) and 15 sub-provincial-level cities (Harbin, Changchun, Shenyang, Dalian, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Ningbo, Xiamen, Jinan, Qingdao, Wuhan, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chengdu and Xi'an) in the first half of the year.

Taobao's reported online payment rate reached 81.5%, putting the firm in first place for Internet payments. In second and third place were Dangdang and Joyo-Amazon respectively, with online payment rates of 16.6% and 13.6% respectively. Two other C2C websites - Tom EachNet (2383.HK) and Paipai - had payment rates of 8.4% and 7.2% respectively.
