Reports from a meeting held by the Guangzhou Informatization Office say that the city's wireless network will be completed in three stages over the next two to three years, with tens of thousands of wireless hotspots installed during each stage, for a total investment of RMB 1 bln.
Experts have suggested that the network be free to use for visits to government and official sites, but with fees charged for downloads of movies, music or games.
Guangzhou Telecom's wireless network will have over 1,000 hotspots by the end of this year, with the company's investment in the project to stand at over RMB 50 mln.
