SARFT Releases 2007 China Broadcasting Statistics

The development and research center of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) in Beijing has announced its "2008 Report on Chinese Television and Film Development" (Guangdian Bluebook edition). Huang Yong, from the development and research center, has said that this report of authoritative statistics from SARFT reveals that in 2007 the national radio and television broadcast coverage rates reached 95.43% and 96.58%, respectively, and that China now has 153 mln households with cable television.

The report also says that in 2007 the combined revenue of China's radio, television and film industries came to RMB 138.3 bln, a year-on-year increase of 19.65%. Contributing to this total, cable TV revenues increased to RMB 30.6 bln, up 21.95% on the 2006 figure. Revenues from cable television subscription fees reached RMB 21.2 bln, while DTV premium programming fees came to RMB 834 mln, representing annual growth rates of 15.6% and 59.31% respectively. Box office receipts from domestic cinemas hit RMB 3.27 bln, marking an increase of 26.98% over 2006.
