56.com Confirms Downtime Due to Regulation

Sohu IT, 6/20/08

On June 20, staff at Chinese online video firm 56.com confirmed that the cause of the site's recent downtime is related to the company's video-recording service. 56.com was one of the first Chinese firms to support the real-time recording and publishing of short videos. Users could use their camera and microphone to record "anything" and have the results published to the web without any editorial intervention.

Editor's Note: As of 6:00pm (Beijing time) June 20, 56.com's site remained down, bringing total time offline to 17 consecutive days.
