Color TV Price Wars Grow Fiercer

Chongqing Evening News, 7/03/08

Prices for some JV-branded 40" LCD televisions in Chongqing Gome (0493.HK), Suning (002024.SZ) and Sanlian sales outlets have dropped from the average 2005 price of approximately RMB 20,000 to RMB 6,000. Prices for JV-branded 32" displays have slipped to RMB 4,700; 40"/42" screens, to RMB 7,000; 52" screens, to RMB 14,000. Within the industry, the low prices are viewed as a means of promoting sales before the Olympics next month.

Domestic-branded televisions are retailing for RMB 1,000-2,000 less than JV-branded displays of the same size, with 32" televisions priced around RMB 3,000, 42" HD LCDs at RMB 6,800, and 52" screens at RMB 13,000.
