A source at a telecom equipment manufacturer has revealed that China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) has completed the procurement bidding plan for its second round of TD-SCDMA network construction, and has submitted the plan to relevant national authorities for review and approval. "China Mobile will begin TD-SCDMA construction after the Olympics," the source said, "and will require manufacturers to be able to ship in large volumes by January 2009. Second-phase networks could move directly to TD-HSDPA."
A securities analyst said that the second phase of construction would probably encompass 24,000 base stations, with bids totaling approximately RMB 30 bln.
