MIIT Predicts CDMA Future

The China Academy of Telecommunications Research at the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) released its Report on Global CDMA Systems Development and Future Trends yesterday. The report contained the following information:

China's domestic CDMA network equipment market is dominated primarily by domestic companies like ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ), Huawei, and Alcatel-Shanghai Bell (ASB), which together control 60% of the market. Chinese CDMA terminal manufacturers account for 12.5% of CDMA terminals shipped globally, with ZTE and Huawei accounting for 6.4% and 4.5% respectively. Domestic CDMA handset manufacturers account for 77% of China's domestic CDMA terminal market.

From 2008 to 2012, the study reports, the number of CDMA users in China will grow by 33% annually, reaching 160 mln by 2012, or 19.3% of mobile users, compared to 7.7% in 2007. The study predicts that EV-DO users will account for 41.1% of the 3G market by 2012.
