WAP Site Fined for Adult Content

Ruling on charges of transmitting pornographic materials, the Beijing Chaoyang District People's Court recently sentenced defendants surnamed Xie and Zhang to five years' imprisonment and a fine of RMB 10,000 and four years' imprisonment and a fine of RMB 8000, respectively. The defendants' company, the Beijing-based MobileFashion.com.cn, was fined RMB 500,000 in addition to the confiscation of RMB 130,000 in illegal income.

The judge ruled that between late 2006 and April 2007, Ms. Xie, the general manager of MobileFashion.com.cn, instructed Mr. Zhang of the company's product department to collect and upload pornographic images. In April 2007, the company was confirmed to have distributed 103 pornographic images to mobile internet users over WAP, resulting in more than 79,000 clickthroughs.
