Rumor: Unicom Subsidiary Sells Duplicate CDMA Data Cards

National Business Daily, 7/24/08

Liu Debin, a man identifying himself as a salesman of Hengshui Unicom';s CDMA wireless data cards, as well as three of his colleagues, recently reported that since March of this year, Hebei Unicom subsidiary Hengshui Unicom has produced and sold nearly 800 ";duplicate"; CDMA wireless data cards for a total value of more than RMB 1.2 mln. Users of the cards frequently complain of dropped connections, insufficient account balances, and of others using their accounts.

With CDMA wireless data cards, one card number corresponds to one IMEI; when authentication for one card number is cancelled in an operator';s computer systems, that card number can be duplicated.
