Guangdong Mobile Requires SPs to Filter Mass SMS

China Communications, 8/01/08

Guangdong Mobile issued a notice to 65 subsidiary mobile paper service providers recently, requiring them to sign the Guarantee of Responsibility for Data Security Management for Mobile Paper Services. The notice says that SP enterprises will be required to strictly filter user-created messages in order to prevent the spread of harmful information. Guangdong Mobile will require SPs to limit online composition and sending of messages to two messages per session, with a maximum limit of 200 messages per day.

SPs that do not sign and submit the Guarantee by the stated deadline will have their access temporarily suspended, and will not have access restored until after the Olympic period.
