Update on TD-SCDMA Rental Services

During the Olympics, China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) will provide TD-SCDMA phone rental services in each of the 10 cities with trial commercial networks. Among them, Beijing Mobile will rent the devices from 16 retail outlets, the domestic VIP arrival hall in the Beijing Capital Airport, as well as 3 TD-SCDMA showrooms.

A call to China Mobile’s service number confirms the phones available for rent will be the Samsung L288, Lenovo TD800, Amoi's (600057.SH) T5, Philips TM700, Datang TG2000 and TCL U398.

The RMB 218 International Olympic telephone card targeted at foreigners will be charged at RMB 0.4 minute to make or receive domestic telephone calls (including video-calls). Calls to other parts of the world will be billed at different rates. Calls to Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macao will cost RMB 1.5 per minute. Calls to Japan, Korea, the United States and Canada will cost RMB 3.6 per minute. Calls to all other countries will be billed at RMB 5 per minute.

The local Olympic card will charge all users RMB 0.1 per minute, and provide free incoming calls. Users of the local card will not enjoy a 50% discount during the commercial trial period.
