China Netcom Expects Broadband Growth of 8 mln Subscribers

Zuo Xunsheng, chairman and CEO of China Netcom (NYSE: CN; 0906.HK) has stated that he expects broadband subscribers to grow by 7 mln users for the whole of 2008, and that the number of new subscribers for 2009 should reach 8 mln.

In the first half of this year, the company signed up almost 3.6 mln new broadband subscribers, and over 50% of capital expenditure was spent on broadband services. Zuo also stated that in the coming future, Netcom will no longer invest in fixed-line and PHS infrastructure.
