Shanghai Mobile to Sell TD-HSDPA Data Card

Sina Tech, 8/29/08

Shanghai Mobile has recently released a TD-HSDPA network card that can theoretically reach speeds of up to 1M, and in practice gets speeds of more than 800kbps. This compares to current TD-SCDMA based cards which max out around 384k. The HSDPA cards were first issued to Olympic organizers and related personnel, and will be sold to the general public starting September. Each card will retail for around RMB 1,000.

Editor's Note: China Mobile began operating its TD-HSDPA 3.5G network in the middle of August this year. For more information on this topic, please see "Shanghai Puts 3.5G Network into Operation", MD 8/15/08.
