Huaqi Sets up Handset Subsidiary

Beijing Huaqi Information Digital Technology Co, Ltd announced yesterday that the company is establishing a subsidiary to handle its handset operations and related services. The company also released a U-disk phone yesterday, which has a port for connecting to a computer to transfer data or recharge its power.

According to Sina Tech, Huaqi Mobile manager Kong Fei has revealed that Huaqi's Aigo brand already has four models of handset (3 CDMA and 1 GSM device) with network access licenses from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). According to Kong, the company is also cooperating with Techfaith Wireless (Nasdaq: CNTF) to build a 70-person handset development team. "After the issuing of 3G licenses, we will release more models of phones that support the TD-SCDMA, WCDMA and CDMA2000 standards."
