Update: GDS, Acer Partner on Asian Data Center

Taiwanese PC manufacturer Acer (2353.TW) recently announced plans to jointly establish an Asian Data Center Alliance with Beijing-based IT outsourcing services provider Global Data Solutions (GDS).

GDS plans to spend RMB 4 bln within the next three years to establish 19 data management centers in 15 cities throughout China. These centers will act as disaster recovery centers and will occupy 3 mln square meters of space.

In August, Softbank China, Suzhou Ventures Group, International Finance Corporation, and China Everbright Investment Management provided USD 45 mln to GDS in capital. Softbank China, International Finance Corporation, and China Everbright Investment Management have previously provided the company with USD 30 mln in funds.
