China Mobile May Give Tietong More Construction Contracts

CWW, 9/19/08

Industry sources have revealed Henan Mobile started the first stage of its 13th project to expand capacity of its GSM network. The project will build 1,027 new base stations, replace the equipment in another 211, and expand the capacity of yet another 1,260 base stations. The construction work will be carried out by the Henan Tietong Engineering Company, which is part of the China Tietong Group.

A figure at China Tietong has commented that the cooperation is a trial effort, but did not exclude the potential for the project to be pushed out nationwide if the results are favorable. In China Mobile's previous construction projects, the company has tended to award bids to the China Communications Services Corporation (CCS) (0552.HK) and the China International Telecommunication Construction Corporation.
