Update: Giant President Details 2009 Plans

President Liu Wei and director Xu Yiran of online game developer and operator Giant Interactive (NYSE: GA) told a reporter from Duowan that the company's upcoming "Ying Zai Juren" ('Win@Giant') platform will function similar to an angel investor, and has already reviewed more than 100 proposals after three months of preparations. Other than browser games and other short-term projects expected to come out later in 2009, the platform is unlikely to produce large-scale gaming projects.

Giant's initial 2009 plans for the platform call for an investment of RMB 100 mln, with more possible for promising projects.

Giant will release three new games in 2009, King of Kings III will be released in H1; a martial arts themed 3D MMORPG, which was developed by a Chengdu online game developer, but about which Giant did not give any game or developer-related details; and sports-based MMORPG Empire of Sports.
